‘Pair of Parakeets’
‘Pair of Parakeets’
A common sight in the suburban parks of London the ‘Kingston Parakeets’ are a non-native, feral, thriving colony that are loved and hated here in the UK.
Parkeets are normally found in India and Africa and no one really knows, exactly how the parakeet population began in London, but there are many theories. Including they may have started due to a pair that escaped during the filming of ‘The African Queen’ in 1951 at Ealing Studios. Or maybe it was the pair that were released in Carnaby Street by Jimi Hendrix!?
With an increase in the parakeet populations in London has come an exciting increase in birds of Prey.
This beautiful pair of Parkeets are reverse painted in their distinctive green colour patterns with their red beaks and gold eyes. This pair are gilded entirely in 24kt Goldleaf.
Each of Danni’s pieces are original, unique and produced by Danni from start finish here in her studio. Each piece is inked, painted and gilded onto the reverse of toughened glass. After completion the piece is flipped over to reveal the artwork through the glass and framed in a 35mm deep frame, creating a gap between the artwork on the glass and the white backboard, which creates the shadow effect you can see behind the Parakeet’s giving the whole piece an almost 3D quality. These shadows can move and dance across the backboard when the piece is hung in natural light, like in a lovely bright room , but will look equally as good under spots or in any well lit space. Once evening comes the these pieces take on a whole new aspect as the metallic leaf radiates its own luminescence.
