‘Kingfishers’
Quick. Look. That darting speck of bright blue. A kingfisher dipping into a river, a fleeting flash of colour is all you may see of the fast-flying kingfisher.
Kingfishers are one of many animals at the mercy of polluted waterways and changing climate. Many water bird numbers have declined as survival in our streams and wetlands has become harder. pollution creates murky waters and kingfishers need clear water to see their prey. Perched on branches and outcrops they skim and dive for small fish and insects… did you know a kingfisher needs to eat its body weight each day… thats a lot of tadpoles!
These kingfishers are reverse inked, painted and gilded onto the glass with copper and silver leaf, the reeds and riverside grasses are reverse gilded in 24kt goldleaf.
Each of Danni’s pieces are original, unique and produced by Danni from start finish here in her studio. Each piece is inked, painted and gilded onto the reverse of toughened glass. After completion the piece is flipped over to reveal the artwork through the glass and framed in a 45mm deep frame, creating a gap between the artwork on the glass and the white backboard, which creates the shadow effect you can see behind the kingfishers and gold leaf grasses, giving the whole piece an almost 3D quality. These shadows can move and dance across the backboard when the piece is hung in natural light, like in a lovely bright room , but will look equally as good under spots or in any well lit space. Once evening comes the work will take on a whole new aspect as the 24kt goldleaf radiates its own luminescence.
